Newswise — SAN FRANCISCO, CA – January 9, 2019:  Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) will host the 8th Annual Glaucoma 360 from January 31st to February 2nd in San Francisco. This signature three-day event highlights innovation in glaucoma therapies to ensure patients have access to the latest and most effective diagnostic tools and treatment options.

Glaucoma 360 kicks off with a fundraising Gala on the evening of January 31st. At the Gala, the 2019 Catalyst Award will be presented to Mona and Edward Zander in recognition of their outstanding support of Glaucoma Research Foundation. Glaucoma specialist and GRF Board Member, Robert L. Stamper, MD, will receive the 2019 Visionary Award for his long-standing dedication to education and glaucoma patient care. Capping the night’s celebrations will be a special musical performance from San Francisco native Fred Ross joined by two-time Grammy Award winning violinist Mads Tolling.

The New Horizons Forum on February 1st will feature more than 60 speakers from companies and institutions. This full-day meeting, co-founded and co-chaired by Adrienne L. Graves, PhD and Andrew G. Iwach, MD, spotlights new and promising developments to diagnose and treat glaucoma, the leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide. Since its inception in 2012, this meeting has grown substantially, attracting key clinical, scientific, industry, financial, and regulatory leaders from across the United States and around the world.

“We have numerous companies presenting their new technologies and approaches to glaucoma care,” Dr. Graves said. “At the same time, we have venture capitalists looking for their next investment opportunities, and the FDA is here to provide useful tools and advice to the innovators to help them take these new ideas into practice. For both doctors and patients, the glaucoma landscape has changed dramatically since we started Glaucoma 360, and each year there have been significant new developments. We are anxious to learn what is new at our 2019 meeting,” she said.

Dr. Iwach added, “Over the past 8 years, the New Horizons Forum has provided a critical venue to get everyone in the glaucoma space together to stimulate and facilitate key discussions and connections. It’s another unique approach for GRF to serve as a catalyst in the development of new glaucoma therapies. In addition to helping patients preserve their vision, Glaucoma Research Foundation is also looking at ways to restore vision,” he said.

Janey Wiggs, MD, PhD, from Harvard Medical School, the Howe Laboratory, and Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston, will deliver the Drs. Henry and Frederick Sutro Memorial Lecture, the Forum’s keynote address, on the impact of genetics on glaucoma.

Session topics will include innovations in glaucoma pharmaceuticals, drug delivery and devices, as well as industry, FDA, and venture capital discussion panels. Special sessions will highlight advances in telemedicine and vision restoration.

Glaucoma 360 will conclude on Saturday, February 2nd with two continuing medical education symposia for ophthalmologists and optometrists. The Shaffer-Hetherington-Hoskins Keynote Lecture on Saturday morning will be presented by L. Jay Katz, MD, Director of the Glaucoma Service at Wills Eye Hospital, and Professor of Ophthalmology at Jefferson Medical School. More than 1,000 attendees are expected to participate over the three days of Glaucoma 360. All proceeds from the events support Glaucoma Research Foundation’s research and educational programs.
