Villanova University’s Catherine Warrick, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Middle East expert, believes that the use of chemical weapons does demand a response from the international community, but the response should not be a military force. Instead, she thinks the US should work with allies to provide aid to refugees, stop support to any party shown to have committed war crimes, and work toward a political solution to the conflict that will help Syria to be stable, peaceful, and self-governing. Military intervention, she fears, could come at a huge political cost for the US.
