Men vs. Women

Newswise — WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – March 1, 2013 – As most people know, there are many differences between men and women (to say the least). But what if acknowledging those differences could save a life.

Being aware of all “warning signs” related to heart attacks, as well as the differences between what women and men experience, can help individuals recognize and react to this dangerous situation quickly.

“While either gender may experience the classic symptoms of a heart attack, there are occasions when women may present with different symptoms as well,” said Sanjay Gandhi, M.D., cardiologist at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

The following symptoms that differ from the more common feeling of crushing chest pain or extreme pressure and tightness in the chest include:

• Nausea• Jaw and neck pain• Fatigue• Shortness of breath

Call 911 immediately if you or someone else are experiencing these symptoms.
