Newswise — New York, NY (December 4, 2013) – The role of the medical librarian is evolving in today’s complex healthcare environment. To recognize the value medical librarians bring to their medical schools, hospitals and other healthcare institutions globally, Wolters Kluwer Health is pleased to announce the winners of its 2013 “Health Science Librarians Make a Difference,” video contest. See all the winning videos and a selection of other entries on the Wolters Kluwer Health YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/woltersKluwerlibrariancontest.

The video contest was designed to help medical librarians promote their services and resources to the doctors, nurses, residents, faculty and students they support. Finalists were judged on the basis of creativity and originality, quality, and content of the message.

The 2013 winners include: • First Place: Spot of Tea, University of Missouri Kansas City Health Sciences Library (Kansas City, MO) - A health science librarian explains how evidence she researched changed the course of treatment for a patient.• Second Place: Why Research Matters, Florida Mental Health Institute Research Library, University of South Florida (Tampa, FL) - How health librarians helped reunite a mother and her child.• Third Place: The Library, an Evergoing Relationship, CRAI Biblioteca de Medicine, Universitat de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain) - How the health science library supports a busy clinician at every step in his/her education and career.

“We offer our congratulations to all of the participating medical librarians for their creative videos. These real world stories help to illustrate the important work librarians do every day to help physicians, nurses, students and others improve patient care," said Cathy Wolfe, President & CEO of Wolters Kluwer Health, Medical Research.

Winners received cash prize grants for their videos selected by a panel of clinicians, medical librarians and publishers, including representatives from Wolters Kluwer Health and outside experts.

Video entries came from librarians all over the world, including the United States, Canada and Europe. Each 3-minute video showed how their library helps to improve patient care, demonstrates institutional leadership, or contributes to the global healthcare community. Entries were judged on the basis of creativity and originality, quality, and message content. Contest judges included an expert panel of clinicians and medical librarians, as well as publishers of Wolters Kluwer Health medical and nursing journals.
