Newswise New Website Con't.
Newswise launched our new website on July 5. We hope you are enjoying the new look and functionality. We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.

You should have received a Newswise username/password on the 4th. If you are unsure of your password, it can be easily retrieved by going to http://www.newswise.com and clicking on the "forgotten password" button on the upper left. Once you have logged in, you may change your password by clicking on "Edit My Preferences" and then choosing the "Change Password/Username" option.

As a logged in public information officer (PIO), you will see a section on the left sidebar called "PIO Tools." From PIO Tools, you will be able to contribute news releases and edit previously submitted releases.

Similarly, two people at each institution have been provided with additional privileges. They can edit the "institution profile" and "manage users;" this means they can add staff members to the Newswise Contact Directory, and manage the status of other users at your institution. They may also assign or unassign this ability to other users at their institution.

Once you have logged in, our new contribution form will recognize you and pre-fill your institution name and your email address into the form.

We noticed that the "release date" section has been confusing for some users. This has been updated for clarity. The release date refers to the date and time you would like your news release to be available to journalists. For stories without an embargo, the release date to journalists and the public is the same. For embargoed stories, the release date to journalists is earlier; the embargo date and time is when it becomes available to the public.

We have also included a "Support" section on the new site. This section is located at the bottom of the lefthand sidebar, or navigation column. Although the support section answers many of the questions you may have, Newswise staff members are also happy to answer your questions personally. You may contact Newswise at 434-296-9417 or by email at info@newswise.com.

Newswise is branching out to supply members of the public access to both our website and our wires. They do not, of course, have access to your contact information or your embargoed news.

Your Individual Report

This is the eighteenth edition of the monthly report in which you'll find:
  • Earlier results
A preliminary report on access counts is now provided for files you've contributed during the most recent month, in addition to a final report on your prior month's activity. This allows you to track both preliminary and longer-range access counts for your stories.
  • Enhanced context
Your reports are now provided within the greater context of this monthly Newswise report, which offers perspectives on your data not previously available, such as studies of how the media access and use Newswise and your stories. We also hope to utilize this "interactive" newsletter as a way of eliciting your suggestions and to acknowledge those who have contributed suggestions.

  • June 2003 Newswise Report (preliminary)

"I am finding Newswise very useful. I especially like the way each story is briefed with a link to more detail/contact information. I have been checking in regularly with your Web site, but I particularly enjoy the email updates."
    --Avery Hurt, freelance
"Newswise is becoming an important source of information for me -- concise and well-selected."
    --Tobias Hurter, Technology Review, Germany
"I have been VERY pleased with Newswise and check it regularly. It's been a great resource here at ScienCentral."
    --Stephanie Riesenman, Sciencentral
"It's a great resource for me. I've already contributed some good and interesting content to our newscasts and I will use this to plan sweeps in the coming months... keep up the good and timely work."
    --Peter Bour, WDTN-TV (Dayton, OH)
"I think you guys do a terrific job. I find myself checking your site more and more and we're using some of your stuff."
    --Wagner Dotto, Oswego County Business
"The Newswise service has been very helpful and informative to me in my work in the field. It's a good way for me to keep on top of the latest medical news and to provide my editors with story ideas. And also the fact that it's a free service is great. Thanks so much."
    --Jenny Poust, Prevention Magazine
"As a long-time user of Newswise, I have to say your service look/change is terrific. I'm on deadline on the trans fat issue for a column and this site is feeding me more fat science, news & experts than I expected...and it enables me not to merely do-wop the sources already tapped by other journalists."
    --Susan Haas, freelance
"I'm a health care journalist and use your site regularly. Just want to say that I really like the redesign. Easier to read and find the info quickly."
    --E'Louise Ondash, North County Times
