The improved Newswise website offers greater interactivity and is easier to use than our old site. Below, you will find a review of many of the new features, as well as explanations for how to use them.
However, as you will see below, these improved features depend on your "logging in," which means you have to enter a username and password. This is a requirement to give you access to privileged and secure information and allow you to edit and contribute your own information.
We've made the login easy. If you do not remember your username and password, simply click "forgotten login" on the upper left navigation bar, enter your email address, and your username and password will immediately be sent to your "registered" email address, which must be the one you enter. These are case sensitive.
When you login, "PIO Tools" shows up at the top of the left navigation bar. You now have access privileges to several functions, including contributing news releases, editing your previous releases, editing your personal preferences (password, email address, Newswise wire subscriptions, etc.), and all monthly reports for the last two years.
If you have questions about a particular feature, please call us at 434-296-9417, or email us at info@newswise.com and we will be happy to help.
Personalize Your Login
You can easily personalize your login and password to make it easier to remember. Simply log in, click "edit my preferences" in the upper left-hand corner, and choose "change password/username."
Subscribe/Unsubscribe/Suspend Wire Subscriptions
Once you are logged in, you can subscribe or unsubscribe to any of the Newswise wires. You may also suspend your wire subscriptions when you go on vacation. Simply click "edit my preferences" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and choose the "Digest Subscriptions" tab at the top. We recommend the DailyWire, by the way.
Contribute News Releases
With our new system, contributing a news release is easier. After you log in, click "Contribute" under PIO Tools in the left navigation bar. Your institution's name and email will be inserted automatically into the form. Complete the blanks on the remainder of the form. The purple circles with question marks offer information about each section when you click on them. The astericks (*) on the right identify items that are required for completion.
View or Edit Past News Releases
You may view and/or edit all of your previously submitted news releases. After logging in, click "Manage Articles" under PIO Tools. You will then see a chronological list of your releases and have the option to edit them.
View Monthly Reports
After you log in, you can view your monthly reports (dated back to Feb/Mar, 2002). Simply click on "Monthly Reports" in the left-hand navigation column and then choose the month you would like to view.
View Your NCD Entry
After logging in, you can click on "Institution Profile" to view your entry in the Newswise Contact Directory (NCD). To edit your general entry, click on "edit" in the upper right-hand corner. (To edit the contact information of your individual staff members, or to include/exclude individual staff members from your listing, click "Manage Users" in the "PIO Tools" section of the navagation column after logging in.)
Manage the Profiles and Privileges of Your Staff
Since you are receiving this document, you are one of two people at your institution with "higher order privileges," meaning you may also manage the profiles and privileges of your staff by clicking on "Manage Users" in the left-hand navigation bar. You will see a list of users at your institution.
You can view the privileges set for each user by clicking on their username. Privileges that you may assign or remove include:
- Manage Articles (allow chosen staff members to contribute new releases and edit previous ones)
- Manage Users (allow chosen staff members to edit profiles of other users at the same institution, and to assign/revoke other staff members' privileges. Assign this privilege sparingly!)
- Manage Institution Profile (allow chosen staff members to edit your institution's general contact information)
Note that some of these "users" may not be in communications. For a variety of reasons, they may subscribe to wires or provide calendar entries. Do not be concerned that they show up in this list; they may appear here because they are at your institution but not necessarily in your office. However, if they are not in communications, you should make sure they do not appear in NCD or in the "Institution Profile" summary. If they are no longer at your institution, please tell us.
