Newswise Sponsored Newsletters |
In March we will be adding a monthly newsletter to our current PIOnet listserve. The newsletter will support media relations' vital role in integrated marketing for your institution. This role is not always adequately recognized, understood, or acknowledged. Our goals is to give you data, arguments, evidence, and ideas to enhance the understanding and appreciation for media relations at your institution.
Each month the newsletter will contain a feature story dealing with public relations by Dick Jones (Principal, Dick Jones Communications), a book review, an article on academic PR research, and an international media relations section. We encourage members of PIOnet to contribute to the PIOnet Newsletter from time to time so that PIOnet members may share their valuable experiences with one another.
Similarly, each newsletter will contain both a book review and a summary of an article from a peer-reviewed public relations research journal. Zoltan Bedy, Ph.D, a professor of public relations at Oswego State University of New York, will regularly review the PR research literature. Finally, Tom Miller from Imperial College London will discuss international media relations issues.
So now PIOnet is a more cohesive forum of higher education PR professionals; we have a listserve, which has been a valuable tool for more than ten years, a website, and a monthly newsletter. We hope that the addition of these interactive tools will enhance the intellectual content, the support for members' career development, and the sense of community.
If you are not currently a member of PIOnet, we'd like to invite you to join. Please also invite your peers, especially those at other institutions.
You may also be interested to learn more about StratCommNet, another higher education public relations listserve sponsored by Newswise.
We are also open to the possibility of creating other such communities, and even subsets within PIOnet. For example, one member suggested a community for PIOs at medical institutions. What do you think? Do you have other suggestions?
|
Praise for PIOnet
PIOnet is almost as lucrative as receiving stolen property, with the
added plus that it's legal (at least till it's tested in the courts).
Our shop has used a number of great PR ideas that came from PIOnet,
which was especially gratifying because we didn't have to go to all
the bother of figuring them out by ourselves. And the list members
make up a perfect sounding board for our PR triumphs and woes.
Come and play!

This is the twenty-first edition of the monthly report in which you'll find:
Earlier results
A preliminary report on access counts is now provided for files you've contributed during the most recent month, in addition to a final report on your prior month's activity. This allows you to track both preliminary and longer-range access counts for your stories.
Enhanced context Your reports are now provided within the greater context of this monthly Newswise report, which offers perspectives on your data not previously available, such as studies of how the media access and use Newswise and your stories. We also hope to utilize this "interactive" newsletter as a way of eliciting your suggestions and to acknowledge those who have contributed suggestions.
