Support for ContributorsContents:
Who is a source? If your institution produces research news or has the vision of enhancing its reputation as a knowledge-based institution, it can be a source of the kind of news we archive and deliver here at Newswise. An institution must first join Newswise to contribute news. If you are unsure about your institution's membership, you may review the list of participating institutions. How to contributeBefore contributing news to Newswise, an institution must first join (see below). Joining has several benefits, including the privilege of contributing news, participating in the Expert Query system, receiving customized monthly reports and performance statistics, and enjoying full access to the advanced suite of tools and services Newswise has developed to enhance institutions' profiles with the media. As a member, contributing news is an easy process of copying and pasting releases into an online form accessed via a username and password. If your institution is already a participating member, but you have not yet contributed a release, you may do so using your personal username and password. If you have not been issued a username or password, see the item on registering below in this list. If you have already received a username and password but have forgotten one or the other, please use our instant Password Retrieval form. To log in, enter your username and password at the top of the navigation column on the left (dark blue) side of this page. Once you have logged in, you will see several changes in the navigation column, including "Edit My Preferences" and "PIO Tools", with five choices within that section. The first PIO Tool is "Contribute". When you click on that item, the "Contribute Article" form appears in the right side of the page. The form will already have your institution name and email address entered. (If any of the information that appears automatically is not correct, you will need to edit your preferences; see the next item in this list for instructions on how to do this.) Continue through the contribution form. It is meant to be user friendly and self explanatory, but if you have any questions about a particular item, click on the "?" icon to the right of the item on the form to find supporting information. When you complete the form, click on the red "Submit" button at the bottom. You will receive a confirming message, including the opportunity to edit the document. The item will be released within a short period of time, but only after being reviewed by Newswise staff. How to edit your preferences (individual, institutional)To change your individual preferences — including your username and password, email addresses, wire subscriptions, and contact info — click on "Edit My Preferences" after logging in. This link is on the top left navigation column and is accessible at all times while logged in. "Manage Users" privilege: when an institution first joins Newswise, one or two primary contacts at that institution are pre-assigned the "Manage Users" privilege. Users with this privilege are able to:
To verify if this privilege has been assigned to your user account, follow the "Manage Users" link under "PIO Tools" after logging in. If unassigned, you will see the message "read-only privileges" above the list of all users at your institution; otherwise you will see "Edit" links in the right-hand column for each user listed, and a link called "Create New" at the top right. To assign the "Manage Users" privilege to other users at your institution, simply click "Edit" next to their user account, check the box "Manage Users" in the "Privileges" section, and click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form. Please contact us at support@newswise.com if you need assistance reallocating the "Manage Users" privilege to other member(s) of your staff. How to access your hit countsYour institution's individual access counts and overall site performance statistics — as well as monthly features discussing the field of media relations or presenting new studies regarding the effectiveness of Newswise — are provided to you each month in your customized Newswise Monthly Report. Your most current report, as well as links to all your previous reports, are always available to you by following the "Monthly Reports" link under "PIO Tools" after logging in. Within the time period covered by each report, you will find detailed statistics concerning the number of accesses to each news item you have contributed. You will also find context for this data, such as the average number of hit counts and the heaviest downloaded news items during any specific time period. Additionally, when a new report becomes available, it is automatically emailed to two people at each participating institution — our primary contact at that institution, and a second person designated by the primary contact. How to register for a password
