Newswise — Members of the press will have the opportunity to meet U.S. leading heart failure nurses, educators, and researchers during the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses Annual Meeting, to be held June 25-27, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minn.

AAHFN representatives will share their knowledge and professional experiences with attendees that include advanced practice nurses, inpatient nurses, outpatient nurses, home health nurses, cardiac/heart failure administrators, clinical directors, physician assistants, dieticians and other healthcare providers, educators, and researchers interested in heart failure patient care.

Topics of interest include assessment of heart failure; cardiac testing and interpretation; pharmacologic therapies; latest clinical research; end-of-life care for patients with end stage heart failure; clinical care of heart failure patients; implantable device therapy " ICDs and pacemakers for heart failure; case studies; genetics; motivating patients and assisting caregivers; and differentiating systolic versus diastolic heart failure.

Additionally, the meeting will feature four interactive skill lab workshops featuring cardiac auscultation, physical assessment simulation lab, remote monitoring options using implantable devices, and a cardiac anatomy lab that will allow the physical handling of diseased human hearts.

There will also be a Pre-meeting Workshop, "Heart Failure Programs: Everything You Wanted to Know But Didn't Know Where to Ask," on Wednesday, June 24.
