UGA Entomology to Lead Effort to Digitize North America’s Butterfly and Moth Collections
University of GeorgiaThis fall researchers at the Georgia Museum of Natural History at the University of Georgia will lead an effort to digitize around 2.1 million specimens from the order Lepidoptera—moths and butterflies—and to make that data available to scientists studying climate, natural habitats and agricultural pests. They hope the insect specimens will tell the story of the world’s climatic shifts, animals on the move and changing fauna.
