Newswise — CHICAGO – March 1, 2021 – The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists Foundation and the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education are accepting applications for a one-year mentored postdoctoral fellowship in integrated diabetes management. Now in its second year, the joint fellowship is designed to foster emerging leaders in diabetes care, grow research and enhance health outcomes for people with diabetes, prediabetes and other cardiometabolic conditions. Julia Blanchette PhD, RN, CDCES, was named the 2020/2021 fellowship recipient, focusing her work on financial barriers to diabetes self-management outcomes in emerging adults with type 1 diabetes.

“Diabetes care and education is a critical component of research designed to address the growing diabetes pandemic and effective care delivery. Subject matter experts in diabetes care and education are needed across research design, implementation, data interpretation and publishing. Emerging scientists in the field of diabetes care and education will lead our country in developing policies and practices to expand access to quality care and improve outcomes. Through this fellowship, we aim to develop the talent base trained to support the specialty and drive innovation,” said 2021 ADCES president, Kellie Rodriguez, RN, MSN, MBA, CDCES. “I encourage anyone working in diabetes research to consider submitting an application. Together, we can improve care for the millions impacted by prediabetes, diabetes and other related chronic conditions.”

“Continued contributions to evidence-based outcomes data from quality diabetes care and education is critically important to demonstrate the sustained impact and value of certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCESs) to the diabetes community. CBDCE strongly encourages research in the field and is thrilled to support CDCESs engaging in such high-value and impactful research initiatives. CBDCE is incredibly excited to continue to expand the partnership with ADCES through the ongoing development of emerging leaders in the field through this fellowship opportunity.” said CBDCE’s 2021 Chair, Ben Klein.

The Mentored Fellowship in Integrated Diabetes Management fellowship supports a postdoctoral fellow and mentor specializing in diabetes management with a focus in one of 6 areas: clinical integration, related conditions, behavioral health, technology, person-centered care or the quadruple aim. The fellow is provided with a one-year stipend, honorary participation in the ADCES Research Committee and consultation to ADCES research efforts, and travel funds for the ADCES annual conference and one other national meeting of their choice where they will be required to present.

To qualify, applicants should submit a cover letter and application by April 28, 2021 to [email protected]. The postdoctoral fellow appointment must be in an integrated department, center or institute with access to support across the various disciplines within health services research: statistics, health economics, analytics and clinical expertise.
