Newswise — CHICAGO (February 25, 2019): The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) President-Elect Barbara Lutz, PhD RN CRRN PHNA-BC FAHA FNAP FAAN, was recognized at the American Heart Association International Stroke Conference in Hawaii, February 6-8, with the Stroke Article of the Year Award!
Lutz accepted the award on behalf of the co-authors and herself for their work on Improving Stroke Caregiver Readiness for Transition from Inpatient Rehabilitation to Home, published in The Gerontologist. She stated, “I was very honored to receive the award on behalf of my research team. This model was the culmination of several years of research, beginning with a study I published in Rehabilitation Nursing journal (RNJ) in 2004. The Stroke Caregiver Readiness Model will help us to better understand how to assess the family caregiver’s commitment and capacity to provide care post-discharge. Dr. Michelle Camicia’s study, which was recently published by RNJ, describes the development of a caregiver assessment tool based on this model.”
The Stroke Caregiver Readiness Model identifies gaps in caregiver preparation. It is based on analysis of 81 interviews conducted with 40 stroke family caregivers.
