Newswise — FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) announced that Guy Harvey and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation are providing a generous financial gift that will allow students, faculty and staff at NSU's Oceanographic Center to enhance their research and academic program and also to provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students studying marine science. For many years, NSU has enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Guy Harvey, Ph.D. and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation. NSU's Oceanographic Center is home to the Guy Harvey Research Institute, where researchers and students study and learn about all aspects of our marine ecosystem, including the animals that live within.
Now, that relationship is being taken to the next level.
"This is another wonderful example of Dr. Harvey's philanthropic, academic and environmental passion and we are thrilled that NSU's relationship with him and his foundation will continue for many years to come," said George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., president and CEO of Nova Southeastern University. "I am particularly excited that his gift will help the next generation of marine biologists, researchers and oceanographers continue the important work that our Oceanographic Center is doing. Guy Harvey is joining a long list of other philanthropic community icons and leaders in having his name added to a building at Nova Southeastern University. Because of his generous gift, the Oceanographic Center will now be known as the NSU Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center, helping firmly establish his legacy at NSU.

While most people recognize Guy Harvey as a marine wildlife artist and conservationist, not many are aware that he earned a Ph.D. in fisheries biology. This love of the marine world, his desire to learn more about our ocean-bound neighbors and his mission to provide direction and assistance in the protection and conservation of these creatures that led to the formation of the GHRI in 1999.
