Newswise — Rockville, Md. – The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) has announced the election of new Editors-in-Chief (EICs) for its three open-access journals — Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS), Journal of Vision (JOV) and Translational Vision Science & Technology (TVST).
Joseph Carroll, PhD, FARVO will serve as the 13th Editor-in-Chief of IOVS, following Donald C. Hood, PhD, FARVO. Carroll is currently a Richard O. Schultz/Ruth Works Professor of Ophthalmology, a professor of biophysics, cell biology, neurobiology and anatomy and professor of biomedical engineering at the Medical College of Wisconsin. “During my term, I hope to improve the author experience, diversify the reviewer pool and editorial board, and to decrease the time to first decision on each manuscript,” says Carroll.
Dennis Levi, OD, PhD, FAAO, FARVO will return for a second term as Editor-in-Chief of JOV, following Andrew B. Watson, PhD, FARVO. Levi currently serves as professor of optometry and vision science at University of California, Berkeley. When asked about his goals for his term, Levi says, "I will aim to speed up reviewing and publication times, increase JOV’s impact factor, expand the article level metrics, and work toward a financial model for the journal that is affordable to authors and can be sustained in the long run, and to ensure that JOV continues to be a leader in on-line publishing.”
Roy Chuck, MD, PhD will serve as only the second Editor-in-Chief of TVST, following inaugural EIC, Marco Zarbin, MD, PhD, FACS, FARVO. Chuck also serves as the Paul Henkind Chair in Ophthalmology and professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Looking ahead at his term, Chuck says, “like in my own career path, my hope is for TVST and ARVO to continue to help advance application of bench discoveries towards addressing public health and other ‘real-world’ issues as we refine the concept and process of ‘translation’.”
