Newswise — The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) has named Jason Ochroch, MD, the 2019 Resident/Fellow of the Year.

Dr. Ochroch is a fellow in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) in Philadelphia, PA.

The award is given annually to a resident or fellow member of ASRA who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to regional anesthesia or pain medicine; has contributed to the advancement of the profession, welfare of residents, or quality of residency education; serves as a role model and mentor to his or her peers; and embodies the values of ASRA.

Nabil M Elkassabany, MD, MSCE, associate professor and director of Regional and Orthopedic Anesthesiology at Penn, nominated Dr. Ochroch for the award. In his nomination, he described Dr. Ochroch as someone who, “displays tenacity, intellectual curiosity, leadership skills, and epitomizes the consummate team player.” He added that Dr. Ochroch is a strong role model among his peers.

During his anesthesiology residency at Penn, Dr. Ochroch revised the resident educational curriculum and helped to organize the institution’s annual regional anesthesia workshop, which draws participation from residents and fellows across the city. He has contributed articles to the ASRA News along with Dr. Brian Williams, from Pittsburgh, about rebound pain after a nerve block wears off.

A graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Ochroch is a native of Pennsylvania, and  holds an undergraduate degree in Biology from the Pennsylvania State University with honors in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences.

Dr. Ochroch will accept his award at the 44th Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting’s “Excellence in ASRA Awards Luncheon,” to be held April 13, 2019, at 11:45 am in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, NV.
