Newswise — Chicago (Oct. 13, 2016): The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) has presented Beth A. Siever, MSN RN CPNP CPON® with the 2016 Dr. Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award. Siever received her award at the 40th APHON Annual Conference and Exhibit, held September 29 – October 1 in Indianapolis, IN. This award is presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence to service and to leadership of APHON.

Siever is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Children’s National Medical Center and has been an active APHON member since 1992. Siever has played a critical role in helping APHON leverage their advocacy efforts, especially over the past 8 years.

According to Casey Hooke, PhD APRN CNS CPON®, APHON Past President, “Beth is your “go to” person if you want a job done and done well. She has served as chair of the local chapter committee, was later elected to our national board as a director at large, and most recently, as chair of the newly formed advocacy committee. All who know her can attest to her joyful enthusiasm for pediatric oncology patients and the professional nurses who care for them.”

The Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award was established in Hooke’s name to celebrate the fine leadership Dr. Hooke displayed as President during a difficult period in the organization’s history.
