Newswise — Chicago (Oct. 13, 2015): The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) has awarded Deborah Echtenkamp, MSN RN CPON®, with the 2015 Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award. Echtenkamp received her award at the 39th Annual APHON Conference and Exhibit, held September 17-19 in Providence, RI. The Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award is presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON in a given year

Echtenkamp, Manager of Pediatric of Oncology and Hematology and Child Life Services from Medical City Children’s Hospital, has been an active member since 1995. She was the APHON President from 2009-2011 and has served on several committees including the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Committee and has also participated as both author and editor of multiple publications.

Jami Gattuso, Immediate Past President, shared “[Deb] has volunteered her time to APHON in many ways over several years. She is a current mentor in our mentoring program, has presented several posters and sessions at annual conference, has served as a chair of multiple committees, was on the team that developed our very successful chemotherapy/biotherapy program and has served on the board in two capacities.”

APHON is the professional organization for pediatric hematology/oncology nurses and other pediatric hematology/oncology healthcare professionals. Its members are dedicated to promoting optimal nursing care for children, adolescents and young adults with cancer and blood disorders, and their families. APHON provides the leadership and expertise to pediatric hematology/oncology nurses by defining and promoting the highest standards of practice and care to the pediatric, adolescent and young adult communities.
