Newswise — BOSTON:  Digital audio research summaries reporting on a variety of contemporary surgical topics have been released from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress 2018, which concludes October 25 in Boston.  The summaries are provided by surgical research teams who reported their study findings earlier this week during the conference, which is one of the largest educational meetings of surgeons in the world.  Topics include:

  • Opioid-sparing perioperative pain approaches
  • Liver transplant patients gaining longer-term survival benefits by accepting organs from older donors
  • How removal of only half the thyroid gland grows in use and benefits patients with thyroid cancer
  • A new effective method of multimodal pain control for outpatient mastectomy minimizes need for postoperative opioid use
