Newswise — Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple celebrated the completion of its new Grobowsky Surgical Center with a ribbon-cutting event.
Scheduled to open in April, the three-story, 147,000 square-foot surgical center expands the hospital’s advanced surgical capabilities for patients undergoing procedures in Central Texas with several features:
- A new, convenient entrance for surgery patients and their loved ones
- 10 additional, larger surgical suites
- 48 new, private day surgery rooms
- A new, 54-bed post-anesthesia care unit
- A new waiting area
- High-tech instrument processing to support advanced procedures
“We have an uncompromising, strong commitment to patient safety and quality care, and this new surgical center is an investment in this commitment,” said Harry Papaconstantinou, MD, chairman for the department of surgery at Baylor Scott & White – Temple. “Additionally, the new facility will give us an opportunity to modernize our existing operating room suites.”
Once the Grobowsky Surgical Center opens, four existing operating rooms within the medical center will be repurposed. The Grobowsky Surgical Center suites are larger to accommodate new equipment, such as intraoperative diagnostics and future configurations.
“We have built this new facility to anticipate future surgical advancements,” said Tim Bittenbinder, MD, chairman, Scott & White Clinic Board. “More space is available in each suite to both accommodate and integrate technology into the operating rooms, making surgeries increasingly safer for our patients while facilitating increasingly complex surgical procedures.”
As the only Level I trauma center between Austin and Dallas, Baylor Scott & White – Temple’s new surgical facility will treat patients involved in traumatic events. Surgeons who use specialized equipment, including robotics and real-time imaging to perform complicated heart and neurosurgical procedures, now have additional space to perform life-saving surgeries.
“Patients will experience the quality care as soon as they enter the Growbosky Surgical Center,” said Shahin Motakef, president of Baylor Scott & White Health – Temple Region. “Whether their surgical needs are planned or emergent, we will meet our patients’ care needs and provide an atmosphere of support for them and their families.”
As a teaching hospital, the surgical facility will help attract highly skilled physicians who can bring new innovative procedures to Baylor Scott & White – Temple. With this new facility, the hospital aims to make Central Texas a destination for patients outside of the region who need complex surgical care.
