Plymouth, Mass. – Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth (BID Plymouth) has received five-out-of-five stars from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in its annual quality and safety assessment of more than 4,500 hospitals across the country. The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating was awarded to only 13.5 percent of 4,586 hospitals in the United States.

“We are extremely proud of our dedicated staff who – day in and day out – pursue the highest quality care for our patients and their families,” said Kevin Coughlin, president of BID Plymouth. “This 5-star rating is a symbol of their hard work and deep commitment to serving our community.”

The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating summarizes a variety of measures across five areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. Once reporting thresholds are met, a hospital’s overall star rating is calculated using only those measures for which data are available, with the average being about 37 measures. This year, the CMS established a new 2021 methodology in five measure groups: Mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. This data, found under the CMS’ Hospital Compare tool, is available for consumers to help them compare performance measure information and make informed decisions about where to go for health care.
