Newswise — Portland, MEBiodiversity Research Institute (BRI) announces the formation of its new environmental consulting services division—BRI Environmental. The new division, based in Portland, Maine, offers a full suite of in-house services for evaluating and permitting renewable energy development projects, infrastructure projects, marine installations, as well as residential and commercial development.

“BRI has long prioritized the need to assess emerging environmental threats to wildlife,” says David Evers, Ph.D., executive director of BRI. “More than a decade ago, we initiated our Wildlife and Renewable Energy Program to address the needs of renewable energy regulators. Our work in this field has led us to an exciting new collaborative venture that increases our capabilities, particularly for solar power development.”

BRI has hired a complete team of experienced consultants and renewable energy experts that comprise this new division. Augmenting BRI’s extensive environmental survey capabilities, the new group will handle project permitting, natural resource surveys, consultations with stakeholders including state and federal agencies, compliance monitoring, civil and stormwater design, and comprehensive program management.

“We are incredibly excited about the complementary capabilities that exist between our two teams,” says Dale Knapp, principal of BRI Environmental. “We bring a core skill set of collaboration and creative problem solving with clients and regulators. With so much happening in the renewable energy sector across Maine and New England, this new division at BRI makes us poised to provide significant contributions to the region’s clean energy future.”
