Newswise — A new collaboration between Harvard Business School’s HBX and Boise State University will bring HBX’s online business fundamentals program to Idaho students and the business community.

The collaboration will allow Boise State students and interested community members to enroll in HBX CORe, one of Harvard Business School’s digital learning programs, and earn a Credential of Readiness from Harvard Business School and HBX. Students also will earn undergraduate college credit by enrolling through Boise State and paying Boise State per credit fees.

“We are excited to help bring Harvard Business School’s HBX CORe to Idaho,” said Boise State President Bob Kustra. “This collaboration is the first of its kind for a U.S. public university and it allows us to offer the highest quality online educational programming in a way that is affordable and accessible for Idaho students.”

HBX has worked with selected institutions across the country but Boise State, through its College of Innovation and Design, will be the first public university to create a local academic program that leverages Harvard’s Business School’s HBX CORe program.

“The mission of the Harvard Business School is to educate leaders that make a difference in the world,” said HBX Executive Director Patrick Mullane. “If HBX has taught us anything, it’s that leaders exist at all levels within organizations and in all geographies. In collaboration with Boise State University, we will now be able to reach even more of those leaders.”

The Credential of Readiness is Harvard Business School’s primer on the fundamentals of business thinking. It is designed to introduce participants to the language of business. The Credential of Readiness covers the basics of analytics, economics and accounting but is designed for students in all areas of study — a college engineering major hoping to land a job in Silicon Valley, a philosophy major looking to work in a non-profit after graduation, or an art historian with a dream of someday opening an art gallery.

The programming will be delivered to participants directly from Harvard Business School faculty, who have created the curriculum, are delivering the teaching and have designed the course delivery platform. By completing the program and passing an in-person exam, students can earn a Credential of Readiness from Harvard Business School and HBX, as well as nine credits through Boise State. The Boise State program includes a one-credit on-campus course.

“Collaborations like this allow us to aggregate best in the world content for our students,” said College of Innovation and Design Dean Gordon Jones. “This is connecting a world-class organization in Harvard Business School with a best-in-class Boise State University.”

The program will begin this fall. Learn more and reserve a spot at cid.boisestate.edu/harvardimmersion.
