Newswise — Howard Brody, MD, PhD, is a family physician and medical ethicist who is Director of the Institute for the Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. He is the author of Hooked: Ethics, the Medical Profession, and the Pharmaceutical Industry (Rowman and Littlefield, 2007) which advocates reforms in the relationship between medicine and pharmaceutical companies. He has had a long-standing interest in health reform. His next book, The Future of Bioethics, charges that the field of bioethics has been neglectful of issues that involve health disparities, social justice, global health, and the environment.
