Digital technologies have the game-changing potential to create and deliver substantial improvements in healthcare. In fact, the very nature of healthcare valuation and delivery is being redefined with the rise of digital. These technologies also offer the opportunity for health economics and outcomes researchers to participate in the co-creation of the “next healthcare system.”
The panel discussed an ambitious digital health initiative by the European Commission to create a Digital Single Market that seeks to design a Europe-wide ecosystem of data-driven healthcare. The panel examined issues from both a European and global perspective. Key themes that the panel anticipates impacting next generation healthcare included standardization and evidence rigor of digitally-enabled insights into outcomes measurement, transparency and reliability of digital data sources, value creation created by interoperability, and the impact of digitally-supported solutions.
