CHICAGO — In its most ambitious partnership to date, Dignity Health Global Education (DHGE), the leading healthcare workforce development company, is collaborating with DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the U.S., to provide online certificate and master’s degree programs tailor-made for healthcare professionals. The partnership plans to offer a portfolio of educational opportunities that address a range of topics impacting the healthcare field, such as health law, cybersecurity, health informatics, data science and nursing.

“We recognize the demand and urgency for healthcare professionals to stay current with ever-changing laws and regulations, dynamic updates and uses of technology, as well as the latest best practices in the medical field,” says Phillip E. Funk, Associate Dean for Health Programs and Initiatives at DePaul University. “DePaul has a history of developing curricula to address what students want and what the market needs. This collaboration with DHGE presents an opportunity to custom design higher education programs to solve the needs identified by the healthcare industry for its emerging workforce.”

Kurt Hayes, Chief Learning Experience Officer at DHGE, stresses the obvious connection between the partners: “DePaul is distinguished by a renowned faculty who ensure their students get more than an education. They want them to gain real-world experience and the skills they need to succeed in a modern working environment. DHGE is operating under the exact same principle. We emphasize learning content that addresses current topics and that is applicable to challenges that healthcare professionals face on the job every day. This joint understanding of applicability and practicability, together with the other numerous values we share, will allow us to carry on a meaningful and long-lasting partnership.”

Certificate in Health Law to launch in March 2020

A Certificate in Health Law, which was co-developed with the DePaul College of Law’s Mary and Michael Jaharis Health Law Institute, is planned to launch in March 2020. As the first of the programs to be offered, this certificate was created to educate healthcare professionals across the spectrum — from business developers to service line leads, non-clinical management to staff new to healthcare — on the complex web of legislative, regulatory, executive and judicial rules within the healthcare space.

“Legal and regulatory issues are among the most frequently reported challenges in modern healthcare. Yet today’s healthcare professionals often feel ill-equipped to navigate that world,” explains Wendy Netter Epstein, Professor of Law at DePaul University and Faculty Director at the Mary and Michael Jaharis Health Law Institute. “The opportunity to partner with DHGE and offer a Certificate in Health Law will empower healthcare professionals to confidently manage the legal issues they encounter in their work, effectively deal with the legal concerns of patients, and better communicate with legal counsel during their careers.”
