DHS Announces $3.6M for Scientific Leadership Awards at Minority Serving Institutions

Newswise — Washington, D.C. – August 16, 2016 - The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) today announced a funding opportunity for Scientific Leadership Awards (SLAs) at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). DHS expects to award six grants totaling $3.6 million. The DHS SLA program is one of several programs administered by the S&T Office of University Programs. Through the SLA program, DHS seeks to build a diverse, highly capable, technical workforce for the homeland security enterprise. MSIs may apply to establish programs relevant to S&T’s mission within their institutions or MSI networks. SLA grants are competitively awarded to accredited MSIs to build Homeland Security Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (HS-STEM) capabilities, establish HS-STEM related curricula and courses of study, support the development of early-career faculty, and recruit and mentor students.
