Dr. Douglas Martin honored for his service to ACOEM

Newswise — The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), an international medical society, honored Douglas W. Martin, MD, FACOEM, with the ACOEM Meritorious Service Award. The award – presented April 28 during its 2013 American Occupational Health Conference in Orlando – recognizes an ACOEM member who has provided meritorious service to the College.

Dr. Martin, Medical Director, UnityPoint Clinic – Occupational Medicine, Sioux City, Iowa, received the 2013 ACOEM Meritorious Service Award for his numerous contributions to ACOEM including his service as chair of the Medical Review Officers Section, chair of the Clinical Practice Committee, secretary/treasurer of the Private Practice Section, and course director for Musculoskeletal Diseases and the Core Curriculum.

In addition, ACOEM recognized Dr. Martin his work on the Stay at Work/Return to Work Committee, his presentations on MRO Controversies, and his active participation in the ACOEM House of Delegates.

Dr. Martin was also cited for assisting ACOEM in the ACCME reaccreditation process. His expertise helped ACOEM achieve ACCME’s highest accreditation status, “Accreditation with Commendation,” which was awarded to the College in 2012.

Dr. Martin received his MD from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He is certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a certified Medical Review Officer and Aviation Medical Examiner. He is also a Fellow of both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians.
