Newswise — (Chicago, May 5, 2015) The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), an international medical society, honored Glenn S. Pransky, MD, MOccH, FACOEM, with the ACOEM Health Achievement in Occupational Medicine Award. The award – presented May 3 during its 2015 American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC) in Baltimore – recognizes an ACOEM member for a specific, unique achievement in occupational and environmental medicine.
Dr. Pransky, the Director of the Center for Disability Research at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety in Hopkinton, Mass., received the Award in recognition of his achievement in bringing disability prevention and management to the forefront as one of the most vital components of occupational and environmental medicine (OEM).
An international leader in the area of disability prevention, Dr. Pransky was also cited for his contributions to the medical literature. His research interests include disability prevention and prognosis of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, work disability in older workers, and enhancing the return-to-work process. The Center for Disability Research focuses its scientific investigations on effective methods to achieve safe and sustained return to work and ways to prevent work disability. In several projects, the Center has examined methods to measure the quality and outcomes for workers with work-related conditions.
Dr. Pransky received his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine and his MOccH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Pransky also serves as an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and is a visiting lecturer at the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Massachusetts/Lowell.
Dr. Pransky joined ACOEM in 1988 and was elevated to Fellowship in 2001. He is a member of the Council of Scientific Advisors and the ACOEM-NIOSH Return to Work Guidance Panel. Dr. Pransky has also served the College as chair of its Special Committee on Evidence-based Medicine and Outcomes, and the OEM Residency Program Directors Section and as a member of the Stay at Work/Return to Work Process Improvement, Workers’ Compensation, and Evidence-based Practice Committees. He is a member of the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, an ACOEM component society, where he served a term as Vice President (2003-2004).
