Newswise — Chicago, May 5, 2015) The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine ACOEM), an international medical society, presented its 2015 ACOEM Meritorious Service Award to Natalie P. Hartenbaum, MD, MPH, FACOEM, a renowned expert in transportation medicine. The award – bestowed May 3 during the 2015 American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC) in Baltimore – recognizes an ACOEM member who has provided notable meritorious service to the College.

Dr. Hartenbaum, President and Chief Medical Officer of OccuMedix, Inc., Dresher, Pa., was recognized for her unmatched expertise in occupational fitness for duty with a special focus on transportation medicine. Her work is this area has elevated the College to a position of leadership in the arena of providing education for physicians who perform Department of Transportation physicals. Specifically, she was honored for developing ACOEM’s highly successful training for commercial driver medical examiners, a course she has directed for more than a decade, and for her contributions as Editor of CDME Review newsletter, now celebrating 15 years of publication.

Dr. Hartenbaum received her MD from Temple University School of Medicine and her MPH from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine, by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and by the Medical Review Officer Certification Council.

Dr. Hartenbaum is a past president of ACOEM (2010-2011) and served on the ACOEM Board of Directors for 12 years as an officer, including secretary/treasurer, and as a director. She is currently chair of the Fellowship Examiners Committee, co-chair of the Transportation Medicine Section, and a member of the Council on Public Affairs and the House of Delegates Internal Affairs Workgroup. Dr. Hartenbaum will serve as conference chair of the upcoming 2016 AOHC – ACOEM’s centennial meeting to be held in Chicago, and is past chair of the 2007 and 2008 AOHCs. She has also chaired the Strategic Planning, the Policy, Procedures and Public Positions, and the Finance and Audit Committees, among others.

A member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Occupational and Environmental Medical Society, an ACOEM component, Dr. Hartenbaum has also served that component as its president (2000-2002).
