The George Washington University has experts available to comment on the April 1, 8.2 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Chile:

Joseph A. Barbera, co-director of the Institute for Crisis, Disaster and Risk Management, is an expert on emergency management, management of large-scale incident response, management of volunteers in major disasters and mass casualty and public health emergency response. Professor Barbera can speak to these issues as they relate to the earthquake.

Attila J. Hertelendy, director of the GW Emergency Health Services Program, is an expert on ambulance and emergency response capability, analysis of preparedness capability and general disaster response and mitigation. Professor Hertelendy’s career in emergency services ranges from a paramedic firefighter up to a chief officer.

Pedro Silva, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, is available to comment on the response of buildings and bridges in earthquakes.
