"Hurricane Sally could become the second stalling hurricane to hit the United States in recent years. Two years ago, hurricane Harvey stalled over Southern Texas as a category 4 storm and was the costliest storms on record tied with hurricane Katrina (2005).  Over a four day period, Harvey brought significant amounts of rainfall (accumulating to well of 1 metre in some areas) to the region which caused severe flooding in Houston and the wider Southern Texas region."

Emily Vosper is a climate scientist at the University of Bristol. Her current research focus is drawing together ideas from Artificial Intelligence and Climate Science with a focus on extreme events. Her last research project assessed the impacts of hurricane rainfall on the Caribbean and found that as extreme hurricane rainfall events will be less likely if global temperatures are stabilised at 1.5°C compared to 2°C above preindustrial levels.
