Equal Justice Works

2001 Public Interest Law Career Fair, Awards Dinner Set for October 26-27

Two days of exciting opportunities, career networking and public interest inspiration await the nearly 2,000 law students, lawyers, employers, law school administrators and justice advocates expected to attend the 2001 National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL) Career Fair and Awards Dinner on October 26 and 27 in Washington, DC.

"Equal Justice Works," the 2001 Fair and Dinner theme, describes the opportunities offered by more than 200 employers who will interview job seekers for summer 2002 and postgraduate positions. The Fair--extended to two full days this year--will be held on the campus of the American University in Washington, DC and will feature both one-on-one interviews and exploratory "Table Talk" sessions where participants can learn more about employers and future openings. Other Fair sessions will provide job seekers and law school administrators with helpful information about working in public interest law and organizing public interest activities.

New this year for Career Fair employers and jobseekers is a special NAPIL Web site offering online information, registration and an employer database. The Web site is located at www.napil.org/event2001.html. The online registration process is instantaneous and the searchable employer database makes the job search easier. Students and graduates can search for jobs by type of employment, location, issues and other factors. Access to this new database is provided when law schools register students for the Fair.

The 2001 NAPIL Awards Dinner is the highlight of the two-day schedule and serves as NAPIL's primary vehicle for raising general support funds. It is a gala event honoring the outstanding public service accomplishments of lawyers, law students and a law school dean. In addition to the presentation of awards for the Law School Dean of the Year, Exemplary Public Service by Summer Fellows and Outstanding Project by a NAPIL Member Group, this year the dinner will honor the late Charles F. C. Ruff, former presidential counsel, for his lifelong commitment to public service and the cause of justice.

The National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL) leads the country in organizing, training and supporting public service-minded law students and in creating summer and postgraduate public interest jobs aimed at bringing equal justice to millions of low-income persons, families and communities.
