Newswise — Ocean Springs, MS – The Gulf of Mexico Alliance (Alliance) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Equinor (NYSE: EQNR), which aims to invest in projects that support a healthy and productive Gulf of Mexico. Equinor is a global energy company, with a key innovation hub located in Houston, Texas, right on the Gulf of Mexico. An ideal position as a new supporter of the Alliance’s Gulf Star Program.
Equinor believes in making a positive difference in the communities where it operates and has a vision to shape the future of energy. Some of Equinor’s core values include support for non-profit organizations dedicated to community/social services, STEM education, and the environment. The Gulf Star Program is designed to leverage public and private funding to increase the region’s resilience by addressing foundational issues that are important to the community, government, and business.
“The Gulf of Mexico is recognized worldwide as a region with tremendous value in ecological, economic, and social terms. Equinor’s regard for Gulf communities and the environment ties directly into the Alliance’s mission. We are pleased to be partnering with them,” said Laura Bowie, Executive Director of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance.
While this is Equinor’s first engagement in the Gulf Star Program, they are not new to the Alliance. They currently serve as the chair of the Alliance’s Business Advisory Council and have been a leading partner in the organization’s All Hands Meeting; an annual opportunity for Gulf stakeholders to work on common issues related to water resources, habitat conservation, and education and engagement.
“Equinor is pleased to enhance its relationship with the Gulf of Mexico Alliance by investing in the Gulf Star Program. This ear to the ground approach in local communities where we live and operate is paramount to address critical needs and generate long term social, economic and environmental benefits as part of our core values,” said Chris Golden, Equinor Senior Vice-President for Offshore North America.
With their investment, Equinor joins a growing Gulf Star partnership with Hess Corporation, Shell, Freeport-McMoran, BHP, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of the Interior, and the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
