Retired Ambassador Carey Cavanaugh, now director of the University of Kentucky Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce, is available to comment on the escalating Russian and Georgian conflict over the Caucasus region of South Ossetia. Cavanaugh is well versed in the history of the region, having served as the American peace negotiator for conflicts in the Caucasus region and helped open the U.S. Embassy in Georgia when it became an independent nation in 1992.
