According to a recent survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation, nearly 1 in 5 adults has had a family member killed by a gun, including in homicide and suicide. About as many adults have been personally threatened with a gun, and about 1 in 6 adults has witnessed an injury from a shooting. This major issue is a top concern for Americans.

June 2 marks the second annual observance of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, also known as “Wear Orange Day.”  There is clearly no silver bullet for preventing gun violence, but the only way forward is to learn more about the phenomenon in all its diversity and to use this knowledge to evaluate and promote preventive interventions.
