Global Leaders to Speak at UVA Darden’s Leadership Speaker Series This Spring

By Dave Hendrick

Newswise — The University of Virginia Darden School of Business will welcome two distinguished global leaders to Grounds this spring as part of its Leadership Speaker Series.

The series, which in 2019 welcomed leaders from business, government and the nonprofit sector, allows leaders from a variety of backgrounds to share their leadership journeys with students, the broader Darden and UVA communities, and the public.

The spring 2020 Leadership Speaker Series includes:

29 January — Mossadeck Bally, chairman and CEO, Azalaï Hotels Group. Register to attend.

8 April — George Tahija (MBA ’86), president, P.T. Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ), and CEO, Austindo Group. Registration available soon.

Bally is the founder, chair and CEO of the Azalaï Hotels Group, a lodging company with hotels across Africa. The company is considered the first private hotel chain in the West Africa region and directly employs more than 900 people.

Tahija is involved in multiple nonprofit organizations that compliment his leadership position with ANJ, which has investments in natural resources and financial and medical services. He is the founder and chair of the marine preservation Coral Triangle Center, founding member of the PSKD Mandiri School, a member of The Nature Conservancy Indonesia Chapter Advisory Board and on the board of trustees of the Asia Business Council, among other roles. A generous supporter of the Darden School, he currently serves as honorary chair of Darden’s Powered by Purpose campaign and has also served as a member of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees.

Unless otherwise posted, LSS talks, which are free and open to the public, are held at 1:30 p.m. at the Darden School Abbott Center Auditorium.
