Newswise — Neptune, N.J., August 10, 2016 – The New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) has appointed Navneet Kathuria, M.D., vice president of Population Health Management for Hackensack Meridian Health, to its Board of Commissioners. Nominated by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for a two-year term, New York’s State Senate confirmed Dr. Kathuria’s appointment on June 17.
Established in 1914 as part of the original enactment of the New York Workers’ Compensation Law, NYSIF’s mission is to guarantee the availability of workers’ compensation insurance at the lowest possible cost to employers while maintaining a solvent fund, as well as to provide timely and appropriate indemnity and medical payments to injured workers. As a member of the NYSIF Board of Commissioners, Dr. Kathuria will help ensure the organization fulfills its mission of achieving the best health outcomes for New York’s injured workers and providing the state’s businesses with a fair market for workers’ compensation and disability benefits.

During the past 20 years, Dr. Kathuria has worked in all aspects of health care from medical practitioner to educator and executive. As Vice President of Hackensack Meridian Health’s Population Health Management, Dr. Kathuria provides strategic and operational leadership for the development of the Population Health platform across the Hackensack Meridian Health network.
Prior to joining Hackensack Meridian Health, Dr. Kathuria established Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Globalization as the school’s Chief Performance Improvement Officer and served as Vice Chairman of Quality Assurance and Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Mount Sinai Hospital. He is also a published author and co-edited “The Handbook of Hospital Medicine.”
Dr. Kathuria received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York and trained in internal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, in hematology at Yale University, and in general medicine at Columbia University. He earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the NYU Stern School of Business.
