Newswise — James C. Denneny, III, MD, FACS has become President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation for the 2007-2008 term. He began his term at the Opening Ceremony of the 2007 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO in Washington, D.C., held September 16-19, that attracted over 8,000 attendees.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology " Head and Neck Surgery, one of the oldest medical associations in the nation, represents more than 12,000 physicians and allied health professionals who specialize in the treatment of the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck.

Dr. Denneny is a private practitioner in Knoxville, TN and also serves as the president of the Tennessee Otolaryngology Society. Dr. Denneny trained in otolaryngology at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with Eugene Tardy, MD.

Dr. Denneny served as the chair of the Board of Governors for the Academy from 1998 to 1999, and was the Founding Chair of the Sinus and Allergy Health Partnership from 1998 to 2002. Dr. Denneny recently has held the positions of chair of the Coalition for Hearing and Balance, founder of the Certificate Program for Otolaryngology Personnel, (CPOP), and coordinator of Socioeconomic Affairs for the Academy. He was a Clinical Scholar in 2002 and won the Distinguished Service Award from the Academy in 2005. He has served on the editorial board of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery and the Archives of Otolaryngology, and has authored a number of books, chapters, and articles.
