Newswise — Neptune, NJ – April 21, 2015 – Jersey Shore University Medical Center and the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Neptune Housing Authority (TNHA) hosted a grand opening celebration for the new Neptune Senior Apartments, officially dedicated as the “Almerth M. Battle Homes,” on Monday, April 20 at the William H. Small Community Center in Neptune. Pat Battle, NBC Co-Anchor Weekend Today in New York/NBC 4’s New Jersey Senior Correspondent, dedicated the apartments in honor of her mother Almerth “Alma” Battle, who lived in Neptune for 50 years and served as a deputy mayor and police commissioner.
The apartment complex, which welcomed residents this past March, is comprised of 50 new senior housing units built on two diagonal parcels of land, situated on Neptune Boulevard and Taylor Avenue. The $13 million development, funded by Jersey Shore, reflects a unique collaboration between Neptune Township and Jersey Shore, part of the Meridian Health family. It provides residents with new, modern apartments, and enables the hospital to expand its medical facilities and services on Davis Avenue.
“This was a great day for Neptune due to the extraordinary partnership forged between the Township of Neptune Housing Authority and Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The completion of our new senior housing complex, named after the late Almerth M. Battle, marks the beginning of a new era in public housing in Neptune Township. The modernized apartments complete with clubhouse, kitchenette and laundry facilities will serve our senior residents for many years to come,” says Beverly J. Holland, Chairwoman, TNHA.
Working closely with TNHA and the community for more than ten years, Meridian Health assembled a project team with expertise in matters related to the HUD approval process, senior housing and community planning. TNHA and Meridian contracted PRC Group – a local industry leader in property development – to construct the new units.
The project enables Jersey Shore to expand its health care facilities on Davis Avenue and develop a new diagnostic and treatment building, clinical academic center for physicians and faculty, support space for the regional medical school campus, additional outpatient service areas, and a dedicated Meridian Cancer Care center. Additional parking for patients, guests and team members will also be available.
