Johns Hopkins University civil engineering assistant professor Thomas Gernay is available to comment on the Notre Dame Cathedral fire, specifically the angle of structural hazards. His work focuses on the development of computational modeling techniques and risk-based analysis and design of structures under multiple hazards, with a specialization in structural fire engineering.  Additionally, he has developed a computational software, SAFIR, that models the behavior of structures subjected to fire.

Gernay is also fluent in French and can perform interviews for international outlets.
