"20 Years On: Riot, Rebellion or Civil Unrest?"

Newswise — LOS ANGELES--On Thursday, April 19, 2012, a panel of Los Angeles-area journalists will discuss the role media played as violence engulfed LA during the riots of 1992.

It was through the media that most residents of LA learned of the beating of black motorist Rodney King and of the acquittal of the police officers involved in the attack. And it was through the media that the eyes of the world were cast on Los Angeles, as the city exploded after that acquittal. The riots resulted in 53 deaths. Property damage topped $1 billion as 1,100 buildings were destroyed, and 2,000 businesses were damaged. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
