Newswise — The University of Maryland's reputation for being haunted seems to be growing.

After 150 years, you might expect to find a ghost or goblin on campus. In fact there are plenty of stories that suggest we have more than our share.

That may be why the first event to sell out for this October's Family Weekend festivities was a tour of some of the most haunted locations on campus by University Archivist Anne Turkos. For those unable to take that tour, we invite you to read on.

This year's edition of "Haunted Maryland" has been updated with new information and expanded to include audio comments from Ms. Turkos, as well as research done in 1976 for the Maryland Folklore Project. We've also separated each location into its own page.

So even if you can't take the Family Weekend tour, come join us on a special, whimsical journey to some of the scariest spots on campus. The experience may well give you something more to fear than just the turtle!

Media working on Halloween-related stories are invited to check out our special Expert's List at http://www.newsdesk.umd.edu/experts/hottopic.cfm?hotlist_id=43. Our faculty can talk about everything from safety tips to the economic impact of Halloween.

We offer a studio for TV and ISDN radio interviews.
