KENNETH J. TOMECKI, MD, FAAD, ELECTED AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DERMATOLOGY PRESIDENT FOR 2021

Newswise — ROSEMONT, Ill. (April 22, 2019) – Board-certified dermatologist Kenneth J. Tomecki, MD, FAAD, has been elected to lead the American Academy of Dermatology. He will be installed as president-elect in March 2020 and will hold the office of president for one year beginning in March 2021.

As president, Dr. Tomecki will lead the world’s largest dermatologic society, representing more than 20,000 physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and medical, surgical and cosmetic treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions. He will hold the same position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association, a sister organization of the AAD that focuses on government affairs, health policy and practice information.

“Although the changing healthcare landscape poses many uncertainties and challenges, one constant is the satisfaction we receive delivering quality patient care,” Dr. Tomecki says. “This is the core of our specialty, and as president, I look forward to working with our leaders and other specialists to ensure continued excellence in patient care, education and research.”

Dr. Tomecki earned his medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his dermatology residency at the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. He is a staff physician in the department of dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Dr. Tomecki currently serves the AAD as an editorial board member for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Before that, he served as an assistant editor of JAAD and, most recently, as AAD vice president after a four-year stint on the AAD’s board of directors.

Dr. Tomecki is vice president of the International Society of Dermatology and vice president of the American Dermatological Association. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Ohio Dermatological Association and a past treasurer of the Cleveland Dermatological Society.  He has authored more than 120 articles and 60 book chapters.
