Newswise — CHICAGO – With its 2019-2020 year officially underway and coming off its successful annual meeting in Montréal, the American Association of Endodontists is pleased to spotlight its new officers of the board of directors.

Keith V. Krell, D.D.S., M.S., M.A., President. Our recent President’s Profile described him as “a musician with 2020 vision.” He is a root canal specialist who enjoys guitar playing and is a fan of classic rock. Dr. Krell believes in collaboration across the specialty and within the association he presides over. He views his new role more like a band versus a solo act. For him, there are no lead guitarists or front men.

He is focused on the future of the specialty and fighting for the members he was elected to represent. Dr. Krell practiced endodontics for 38 years. He currently teaches at the University of Iowa, and he is a retired United States Army National Guard lieutenant colonel. He is a past president of the ABE and Foundation. Dr. Krell has been married for 48 years to Diane, and they have two grown children, Rayda and Nathan, and five grandchildren.

Alan H. Gluskin, D.D.S., President Elect. Dr.  Gluskin is currently Professor and Vice-Chair, Department of Endodontics, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of the Pacific in San Francisco. He is at present a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

Dr. Gluskin is a member of numerous societies including the American Dental Association and the San Francisco Dental Society. He has served on the Educational Affairs Committee and the Research and Scientific Affairs Committee of the AAE, as well as General Chair for both AAE10 and AAE18.

Dr. Gluskin is presently on the Executive Board of Directors of the American Association of Endodontists as President-elect of the AAE, and additionally functions on the editorial boards of the Journal of Endodontics and the International Journal of Endodontics. Dr. Gluskin is the 2017 recipient of the University of the Pacific’s Eberhardt Teacher-Scholar Award. He is co-editor of the textbooks Decision Making in Dental Treatment Planning and Practical Lessons in Endodontic Treatment

Alan S. Law, D.D.S., Ph.D., Vice President. Dr. Law received his Doctor of Dental Surgery and Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Iowa City, Iowa.  He also completed his PhD, “Mechanisms and Modulation of Orofacial Pain”, with the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Iowa.  Dr. Law has published several of articles in scientific and clinical journals and has co-authored chapters on The Non-Odontogenic Toothache and Regenerative Endodontics in Pathways of the Pulp, and has lectured at over 300 local, national and international meetings.  He is a Past President of the Minnesota Association of Endodontists, former Director of the American Association of Endodontics, and Past President of the American Board of Endodontics.  He is in full –time practice in the Twin Cities, Minn. and President of The Dental Specialists, a multi-specialty dental practice with over 20 specialists.  He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Endodontics at the University of Minnesota.

Craig S. Hirschberg, D.D.S., Secretary. Dr. Hirschberg is Chair of the Department of Endodontics and former Director of the Advanced Education Program in Endodontics at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.  He received his DDS at New York University College of Dentistry in 1980 and earned a certificate in Postgraduate Endodontics at New Jersey Dental School (now Rutgers) in 1983.  Dr. Hirschberg is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.  He is in part time private endodontic practice in Chatham, N.J.

Gerald C. Dietz, Jr., D.D.S., Treasurer. Dr. Dietz is a managing partner in a large group endodontic practice, Endodontic Associates in the Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He received his dental degree from the University of Michigan in 1984. He completed his post-graduate endodontic training at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 1986. 

Dr. Dietz is a past District IV Director of the AAE Board. Dr Dietz has served on many committees in organized dentistry through the years. More recently he has served on the AAE Foundation Board of Trustees, the Public and Professional Relations Committee, the Practice Affairs Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee.  On the State level he is Past President of the Michigan Association of Endodontists. 

 Dr. Dietz taught pre-clinical endodontics at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry for several years. Dr. Dietz also served as a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Society, Board of Governors. He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He also participates with the National Foundation for the Handicapped through Donated Dental Services and provides endodontic care for Angel’s Place residents. Dr. Dietz participates in the MDA’s Mission of Mercy Program.

Patrick E. Taylor, D.D.S., Immediate Past President. Dr. Taylor’s dental career spans 21 years in the military, 18 years of private practice in Bellevue, Wash., and he is currently an Affiliate Faculty appointment at the University of Washington School of Dentistry. Dr. Taylor and his wife Frances live in Kirkland. and enjoy hiking, gardening and cooking. Their son, Brian, is a physician in the Navy, stationed in Kaneohe, Hawaii, and has a son, Luke. Their daughter, Katy, is an elementary school teacher in Camas, Wash., and has three children, Chloe, Carter and Clair.
