Newswise — WARRENDALE, PA—The Materials Research Society (MRS) announces two new three-year appointments to its Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2019.

Monica Jung de Andrade, research scientist at The University of Texas at Dallas, has been an active MRS Member for many years. She is the founder of the MRS University Chapter at the University of Texas at Dallas. She has held positions on both the Academic Affairs and Member Engagement Committees, and from 2014-2018 chaired the International Student Affairs Subcommittee. Monica was also the 2017 recipient of the MRS Woody White Service Award, given in recognition of her impactful service to the Society. Monica has worked tirelessly with MRS to promote and engage young professions from around the world, and will bring that same enthusiasm and commitment to the governing board.

The second appointment is that of Yusheng Zhao, chair professor for the Department of Physics, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), China. A longtime member of MRS, Yusheng has been a frequent tutorial instructor and served as a Symposium Organizer for the 2015 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston. As both a research fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a guest professor of Peking University, Yusheng will provide a broad international perspective to board discussions.

The MRS Board of Directors is the governing body of the Materials Research Society and is responsible for setting the strategic direction of major Society activities.
