Measurements and Simulations of Aerosol Released while Singing and Playing Wind Instruments

As president of the College Band Directors National Association, Director of Bands and Tiger Band Director Mark Spede was instrumental in a international aerosol study, which examined how COVID-19 may spread through music activity. This peer-reviewed research at the intersection of art and science continues to inform the safety procedures of thousands of vocal and instrumental groups. Spede’s contributions not only helped scientists determine how COVID-19 can be transmitted through singing and wind instruments, but also developed real-world solutions for limiting the spread of the virus.
