This computerized animation provides an artistic view of a quaking motion in myoglobin, a protein found in our muscles. The sphere toward the lower left of the protein represents an iron atom that serves as the “epicenter” for a light-triggered quaking motion observed in an experiment at SLAC’s Linac Coherent Light Source, an X-ray free-electron laser.
