At least 16.8 million Americans could benefit from lowering their systolic blood pressure to 120 mmHg, much lower than current guidelines, according to a University of Utah led study to be published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) on Nov. 9. Researchers calculated the potential impact of results from the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT), to be presented in full at the American Heart Association meeting, also on Nov. 9.
