The colors in this image — being viewed on a special microscope — show scarring in an older mouse ovary. The scars consist of collagen fibers, also called fibrosis. (The fibers were pseudocolored for visualization.) A new study shows this scarring may affect a women’s ability to produce healthy eggs as she ages.
