Inoculating--adding helpful bacteria to soybean seeds–usually occurs at sowing time. However, in this study, soybean crops at various stages of growth were also inoculated by spraying the plants with bacteria.
Bacteria inside root nodules need oxygen to survive. A pink or red color inside a nodule indicates the oxygen supply is robust and the bacteria are thriving.
